Jinja, Uganda – The Lutheran Church of Uganda held its qurterly National Synod Board of Trustees’ meeting at Jinja City Hotel.

The 2 days meeting, brought together leaders and representatives from across the country to receive and discuss reports and ministry progress as well handle the challenges faced by the Church.

Bishop Charles I. Bameka, who chaired the meeting, thanked the National LCU leaders for their hard work and service to the LCU and their local communnities. He encouraged them to continue supporting the church’s mission of proclaiming the Gospel and serving the communities around them.

The board members then took turns to present reports from their respective Deaneries and areas of representation. The reports showed that the church had made significant progress in its mission of promoting spiritual growth, education, and community engagement. This was reflected in the increasing membership, new schools and mission areas established by the church.

One of the challenges highlighted during the meeting was the secession of a number of South Western Deanery individuals, who had claimed to have set up their own Diocesse. However, there remained over 18 congregations out of 26, who were still affiliated to the LCU in the Deanery. The members proposed various strategies to address the challenges affecting the outreach ministry of the LCU including increased local congregational fundraising activities to support the welfare of the Pastors and activities of the Church..

In his closing remarks, the Bishop thanked the delegation that visited the Board from the South Western Deanery for the reports presented as well as the other members for their commitment and urged them to continue spreading the gospel and serving their communities.

The Board Members present included; Rev Raymond Kaija – Mid Western Deanery, Rev Peter Maganda – Eastern Deanery, Rev William Waiswa – Youth League, Mr Magezi Fred Head of Laity, Rev Benjamin Lochope & Rev. Moses Lokong – North Eastern Deanery, Rev Nicholus Bwire – FarEast Deanery, Rev James Odoo – Dean Northern Deanery, Ms. Phiona Kayanga – Youth League, Mrs. Dorothy Layet – Women’s League and Bishop Charles I. Bameka.

A delegation of 4 members representing the South Western Deanery, reaffirmed their affiliation and continued fellowship with the LCU.

Rev. Volmir da Rocha, Principal of the LCU Seminary was invited and presented the Deminar reports, updates and budgets.
