Eastern Deanery

ED

Eastern Deanery is blessed to have land where her headquarters can be established. In the deanery council of 12th December, 2020, a resolution was made to have the Deanery Headquarters established on the land bought by Our Savior Lutheran Church of Uganda in partnership with Our Redeemer Lutheran Church IL USA, and Because the land is big enough the original plan of having a secondary school and a church will be planned on the same land.

As a Deanery we are much blessed to be among the Deaneries in which the Lutheran Church of Uganda operates and also grateful to the Lord that the Lutheran church of Uganda started her ministry in the East making our deanery the hub of Lutheranism in the Country.
Rev Peter Maganda | Dean of Eastern Deanery

WORD AND SACRAMENT MINISTRY

Word and Sacrament ministry is offered to the parishioners in the different communities where we have congregations and preaching stations. Eastern Deanery is served by 13 ordained ministers who have on a daily or weekly basis ensured that this ministry is done.  The pastors are also assisted by commissioned evangelists/Deacons and vicars especially in places where pastors cannot reach on a weekly basis. We are so grateful for their support in the congregations they serve.

Eastern Deanery is grateful for the committed pastors and vicars who have ensured the congregations under their care are served according to the pastoral reports below;

WORD AND SACRAMENT MINISTRY

As a Christian family, we seek to grow in God’s word and grace. We gather on God’s word and sacraments (Baptism and Holy Communion) every Saturday and Sundays, bible studies for the youths, Adult bible study, women bible study and hand crafts to support the ministry every Thursday.   Through catechism classes, Music and drama for the youths and children, youth’s gatherings, thanks giving events, Sunday school and children’s ministry, Elderly ministry-we reach out to elderly with Gods word and social ministry. ‘’therefor go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age’’. Matthew 28:19-20 NIV.

DEANERY LAND

Ownership of land determines assurance of existence in a community. It is the reason most of our congregations work hard to get pieces of land where they can establish themselves.

Achievements;

i)Preaching the word;

As a called and ordained servant of God, I have been blessed by him to consistently serve at Trinity L.C.U Iganga town and also at Christ community Lutheran Church kawete and Uganda Prisons Namungarwe whenever duty calls on Wednesdays and Saturdays then Sundays according to God’s will.

ii) Teaching the faith;

I usually use Wednesdays for chapel at Christ community Lutheran school and bible study on the same day during evening. Then I use Sunday Mornings for teaching bible studies at Triangle Secondary school Iganga and thereafter preach the word. At midday Sunday twice or thrice a month visit the Uganda Prisons Namungarwe to preach the good news and do pastoral guidance and counseling to encourage the inmates to be strong in the lord who loves and cares for them always.

I once in a while get an evangelist who helps preach the word in C C L S whenever he is available or a co-preacher who is among the Christ community Lutheran school staff under sincere practice in church service.

Evangelism;

I normally do evangelism with in neighborhood of Triangle secondary School and C CL S, in kawete once in a while during weekends on Saturdays.

Outreach ministry;

I thank God for enabling me reach out the shut -in in hospitals and prisons that I do on some Sunday evenings after church service and Saturdays accordingly.

Holy communion;

During these first months I have managed to offer Holy communion one at Trinity Church Iganga and am preparing those of Christ community Lutheran church in kawete for this blessed Lord’s super.

Pastoral guidance and counseling;

It has been a blessing that this guidance has been offered every Sunday after church service to the congregants of Trinity church Iganga and kawete C C L S congregants whenever I finish preaching to them.

Bible studies and catechesis;

These two vital services have been done one after another on Wednesdays evenings Saturday afternoons and sometimes on Fridays whenever we have mission Trainings at C CL church kawete; Then at Trinity it’s done after church services bi-monthly or Saturdays in the evenings whenever an opportunity arises.

Stewardship;

We have thrice been blessed to do steward ship lessons and services at Triangle S.S and its neighbor. Yes, it has only happened once at Christ community Lutheran kawete.

Challenges in the ministry.

  1. Inadequate faith books and related materials like bibles, catechism and other related books are hard to get or buy by most congregants who are still struggling in various life situation.
  2. Distance and time management,

This costs  me a lot of unbudgeted expenditure and delays when I fail to get a rider on time or when I have limited finances.

  1.  Inconsistence of services offered.

Due to lack of some vital elements and sacred vessels like chalice, wine cruets and paten. Its too hard to find anything to be used in their places so, its only the single reason of missing this service i.e. divine services often.

  1. Finally, the other major, challenges lack of devices use to store and send information like a computer, camera, plus flash media, CD and communication flour.
  2. Lack of means of transport

The biggest and most expensive challenge to resolve now is time, which is running so fast and can be managed in case means of transport are available and managed by the user (pastor). This is the cause of delays and inconsistence in reaching out different places I need to.

Way forward;

  1. There is need for team working to teach the congregants stemorshipe so as to be able to buy enough bibles, catechism and other related church books, sacred vessels and all sacred furnishings and fabrics.
  2. Means of transport should be provided in the name of church properties to be used for ministry services to save time, delays and distances far easily reached.

      In conclusion, “may the LORD your GOD be with you as he was with Mosses” (josh 1:17)

And “May the Lord your God be with gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Crist Jesus had, (Romans 15:5)

                                                                                                        Yours faithfully

                                                                                                        Rev. Mutebi Edson Junior

The Training is funded by Lutheran Lay Renewal of America.

There shall be commissioning of evangelists in the month of October.

The target for the Leadership Training is towards the congregations that completely don’t have worship leaders and for individuals capable of joining seminary to train as Pastors.

We thank the Lutheran Lay Renewal of America for supporting this noble task.
