At least 81 people received free medical care at two medical camps jointly organized by Lutheran Church of Uganda (LCU), Connect to Uganda (C2U) and Christ Community International.
The medical camps were held at Bubago village, Kisozi Sub County in Kamuli district and at Kawete Clinic in Namungalwe Sub County, Iganga district.
At Bubago 33 people were treated while at Kawete 48 also received free medical services.
Dr. Kent Klan a visiting Doctor from the USA told this Website that the major illnesses treated at the two camps included, Malaria, allergies, coughs, worms, skin infections, ulcers, high blood pressure, joint pains as well as eye infection and STIs.
Dr. Kent disclosed that at Kawete camp, 3 patients were referred for specialized treatment to Mengo Hospital in Kampala, Nile International hospital for an echocardiogram and Jinja Regional Hospital respectively. All the three referrals are staff of Christ Community Lutheran School (CCLS).
Meanwhile at Bubago, one patient was referred to Jinja regional Hospital for further tests to be conducted.
The Lutheran Church of Uganda Missions’ Coordinator Ms. Nanono Violet said the two medical camps were organized as part of the Church’s Corporate social responsibility to communities where that church serves.
She commended Connect to Uganda (C2U) and Christ Community International for always partnering with LCU to help vulnerable communities.
Speaking to us, some the beneficiaries who would not hide their joy thanked LCU together with her partners C2U and Christ Community International for the initiative calling it timely especially with warring health care system in the country coupled with lack of drugs.
According to International Journal for Equity in Health, Uganda has a high level of out-of-pocket health expenditures at 40%, 25 percentage points higher than recommended WHO levels for out-of-pocket expenditures.
High out-of-pocket expenditure has led to a high incidence of catastrophic health spending among the poor in Uganda.
The health facility accessibility analysis showed 71.73% of the Ugandan population to be within a one-hour walk of their nearest government HC.
